Dover International Speedway, located in Dover, Delaware, features an oval track that measures a mile around for each lap. Each year, it hosts two races, both sponsored by MBNA. The first of those races usually takes place in June with the second coming in September. Last year, Mark Martin won the first race while Ryan Newman was able to run away from the field in the second race. Last year’s second race, called the MBNA America 400, was a redemption of sorts for Newman after he had suffered engine failure the week before and fallen off the pace quickly. Newman was able to take down the likes of Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Kurt Busch, and Tony Stewart for a win that would move him into 8 th in the points chase. Gordon’s strong performance at the Dover International Speedway propelled him into the points lead as he was able to overtake Busch by a point and Dale Earnhardt Jr. by 18 points with eight races remaining in the season. Newman’s win was his third at Dover, tying him for second with Jeff Gordon. Mark Martin leads all racers with four wins at Dover International Speedway. All of the leaders of NASCAR tend to run very well at the track and previous winners at Dover include Jimmie Johnson, Richard Petty, Dale Jarrett, and Dale Earnhardt Jr, as well as Newman, Martin, and Gordon. Dover International Speedway, known as “The Monster Mile,” has the capacity to seat 140,000 people and is one of the top tracks in the Northeastern section of the country. It’s location is great for fans in New York and North Carolina which means race fans from all over can watch some of the best racing of the season.
