The Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, is the home of the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 in April and the Dickies 500 on November 6 th. This season, the Dickies 500 will be the eighth race out of ten in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Chase for the Cup Championship. The Texas Motor Speedway began hosting NASCAR races in 1997 with the Interstate Batteries 500 which was won by Jeff Burton. In the seven other years the track has hosted a race, there has never been a repeat winner, but the names of winners at the Texas Motor Speedway comprise a list of the best racers in the circuit. The names include Mark Martin, Terry Labonte, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Dale Jarrett, Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman, and last year’s winner, Elliott Sadler. The Texas Motor Speedway is a track measuring a mile and a half around in the shape of a quad-oval. The facility is one of the more recent ones built since racing has really taken off in the Southern and Midwestern parts of the country as of late.
The seating capacity at the Texas Motor Speedway is in excess of 150,000 and the speedway also features nearly 200 skybox VIP suites. This is the first time in Texas Motor Speedway history that the track will host two NASCAR races in the same season. Although this is great news for the fans and administration of the track, it will also likely be helpful to the drivers themselves. Not only do they seem to enjoy their trips to the South, it will also give them another chance to get acclimated to the course since it will be so important in the Chase for the Cup.
